Consumer Spending In Surprise July Jump

US consumer spending rose more than expected in July, providing a welcome boost that the economy may be more resilient than expected. According to figures from the Commerce Department, spending rose by 0.4% in the month compared to June, the strongest rise since March, and rose by 5.9% year-on-year.
